Love and Pain

I’m re-reading the classic “Hinds Feet on High Places”. A quote to share … “‘That is true,’ agreed the Shepherd. ‘To love does mean to put yourself into the power of the loved one and to become very vulnerable to pain, and you are very Much-Afraid of pain, are you not? … I have already warned you that Love and Pain go together, for a time at least. If you would know Love, you must know pain too.’”
I read this book MANY years ago. Much has happened since then. The reality of pain and love working in tandem carries new meaning this time. It’s a little too personal. Thank goodness hindsight (yes, it is 20/20) reveals to us not only the purpose of pain but that we can persevere. May we, may I, never be afraid to love … to experience true Love but to be willing to it share it with others. May we learn what it means to love with no expectations. To risk pain in that endeavor. Kind of scary, hmmm?
